Author : , Posted on: 08.02.2008

you know that gross feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you blow ur entire load all over the blackjack table (metaphorically speaking,obv)..its right up there with your girlfriend telling you shes cheated on you and gettin 2 outed on the final table bubble… but for some inexplicable reason i still do it.

let me say this..i hate blackjack with a passion..i know i am SUPPOSED to lose most of the time but still play it reguarly…WHY ??????????????

does anyone have this problem ? im considering quitting live poker just to avoid the casino..fuck im an idiot

for the record i spewed $700 at blackjack tonight…vomit

star city good value starnge rules

Author : , Posted on: 08.02.2008

i had a good day yesterday down at star city playin the $1/2 cash game makin a clear $450 profit…i like playin down there because of the huge value in the cash games….legal poker in sydney is a relatively new thing so there are a lot of inexperienced players however the running of the card room leaves a lot to be desired frankly

iv played poker in a lot of plces worldwide…i am from london and have played in casinos all over the uk as well as vegas, tunica, melbourne, dublin, cork, paris and others and have never come accross soem the rulings set in place for star citys poker room anywhere in the world

i guess the first thing that i noticed was the rake…certain games have different rake structures but none of them are player friendly there is one game which is $200 mina nd max sit down blinds $5/$5 where the rake charge is $1 per hand (are you fckn kidding me ?) when i first played it and the dealer asked me for a dollar i thought  ah this must be an ante, interesting for a cash game but fine by me………..imagine my suprise however when the dealer put alll the $1 chips collected in his special little tray \”this table has a $1 charge per hand per player,sir\”  he said and got on with dealing the hand….unreal to think that if you play 100 hands you will do half your buy in just in rake alone…..the other funny thing is this rake structure only applies to one specific table the others have a time charge AND a rake of 10% in my experience its always been one or the other, no ?

the second thing i noticed and this,in my experience is unique to star city and an absolutely terrible rule… who remembers high stakes poker, season 1 i think it was, when negreanu and co accused feddy deeb of \”going south\” in england we call it \”nipping\” or \”weeding\” it means takin money from ur stack and putting it in your pocket and is a complete no no and can result in a barring from the casino….well in star city they call it \”thats perfecly ok with us, we encourage responsible gambling \” are you fckn kidding me ????…the first time i saw someeone do it he won a $500 pot and we were playin a game where the min and max buy in is $80…so he wins the pot and happily pops 400 buckos in his top pocket…im thinkin man that guy didnt even try and do it suriptitiously he just went rago style hel be lucky not to get caught..no one batted an eye however……when i asked the card room manager he said \”oh thats ok ur allowed to do that here, its called chipping down and a lot of players do it \” absolutely ridiculous they say its in the name of responsible gambling but think about it this way if you are the guy thats just lost $250 to a guy who then puts that money in his pocket youre now thinkin how am i ginna get that money back…that money now being out of play would be enough to put me on tilt…maybe even enough to make me wanna get out into the pit to try and win it back…mmm star city ? responsible gambling my left ballbag….

i could go on ragging on star city like your hand gets mucked if you answer the phone evn just to say i call you back and the fact that some dealers let you get away with all kinds of speech play where others will call the floor insantly if someone says a word but its not all bad the players are generally real friendly, the cash games are super soft and the view form the smoking balcony right by the cardroom is one of the best views in the whole of sydney(seriously) anyway thanks for listening

crossing back into live poker

Author : , Posted on: 07.02.2008

iv recently been playin more and more live poker as i am in a new city(sydney) and have recently got a taste for playin live again….

a lot of us have been spoiled over recent years playing online cash games as we can happily play 3/4 or more tables whill watching the new high stakes poker and smokin a bifter in our pantaloons so movin back into live poker definitely takes some adjustments…

the first thing is boredom..as mentioned above multi tabling online cash games means that there is pretty much always something to do this is far from the case in lve play…a common mistake bourne out of this problem  is the tendancy to play too many hands just for something to do..this is obviously a negative ev strategy because as we all know you just wont hit the flop very often and will find yourself check folding almost all the time when you specualte with marginal holdings…the upside of this however is that many of your opponents suffer from this same affliction and will limp every single pot with a range that would make even the biggest online donk blush….the game iv been playin lately is a 1/2 no limit and its not ucommon at all to see a 9 way limped pot goin to the flop-would you ever see this online ? extremely rarely in my experience

one way i often exploit this limping tendency is makin a dead money pick up on the cut off or button.. if for example the first guy in is a compulsive limper(there are many in this game )the limpers that follow him cannot have a big hand because, altho they are generally donks, they still know that if they do not raise they will be takin their pemium hand to war with 6,7 or 8 other random holdings makin it much tougher for their hand to hold up…therfore a big enough raise about 7xbbs with 3 limpers will often pick up the pot or get you heads in position with one of the stubborn limpin donks..they will often have a small pocket pair or some kind of JQ/Q10/J10 type of hand either way you should always bet the at least 2/3 of the pot when they check to you and expet to get a fold about 80% of the time…..

try not to get into the habit of limpin yourself but be aware when people start catchin on that you are tryna run them over..people get even more stubborn in live poker than online if they think you are tryna bully them so when you have established that lag image tighten up for a bit and make sure next hand you roll over is a big one…..when your in this situations it is fine imo to limp along with small pocket pairs and occasionally suited connectors altho i still prefer a raise

il leave my first entry with one other piece of advice for all poker players hat i hope you all agree with…it translates to live poker online poker and life really…always treat people with respect at the table no one like s a big shot who talks about how the other guy misplayed his hand…win or lose respect yourself and other players by just keepin your opinions to yourself becasue the truth is your gonna run into some horribly bad players and you will take some bad beats but beratin them wont get you your money back it will only make you look like a little bitch ! thanks for listening..
